Money is not the only answer, but it makes a difference. [Barack Obama]

Today the evil that we are fond of has distracted my concentration – it’s all about the money, and nothing more evil than the ability to do a lot of things with just such simple tool.

Money

Money is not the only answer...

Praise to the Lord that I have received a good percentage of increment. It was worth the effort I put for the works I’ve done for the past one year and a half. I sincerely believe that I earned it, but I know I could have done a lot better in work. I do hope that it will be my motivation to work harder in the future.

This morning there were talks – communications via online actually – on the salary adjustments topic. There were buzz that the information has been uploaded on staff personal report page on MyHRM portal. It speaks for itself when it took us here in Bintulu few attempts to access the page – much were greeted with “system busy, please try again” error.

I’ve checked mine. They have made the necessary adjustments as what we have been informed earlier. I had mistaken in assuming that they will be giving the bonus as well – that had to wait, but as for now I should be thankful with what I have gotten.

Work went very slow today. After a chit-chat session and reviewing of documents, it was pretty much nothing on work. It didn’t help much that I was a bit tired by travelling around as well yesterday.

We do hope that it was not a bad omen – our dinner outing after we fetched the manager’s family from the airport ended up with a parking summon after we parked the company car at the side of the road. It looks like they’re pretty strict in enforcing the rules here, or maybe it was just not our day.

On a personal health note, I have been lacking in exercise of quite late, and I can feel that my stamina and metabolism rate is going down the hill, and my weight is going up. It didn’t help much that there’s much of food exploring that has been and will be done in Bintulu, but I should stop eating heavy dinner as a start – but one cannot simple refuse all the delicious seafood. Such a burden in balancing the body and mind.

I should try to pick myself up and work on the given assignment to ensure that it is done as and beyond the expectation of the management. Let’s hope that I can pull it out.

Many times I have tried to capture this elusive 19, but only yesterday I managed to do so. :)

Lucky 19

Lucky 19

This is about the promotion campaign by the 1901 chain that they do to attract customers. They have this ‘Lucky 19′ campaign where they sell New York Chicken & Chicago Beef hotdogs for RM 2.99 each, and it’s only valid on the 19th of each month. We can see the links here between the selection of each 19th and the franchise’s brand name. :)

I have been trying to get myself to try this offer out since October last year. I was out of luck, so to speak, for the past five months because something always happened on that fateful day, or that I have simply forgotten, to head to the the LG level of Suria KLCC (where one of the chain’s branch is famously located).

But not yesterday. Abundance of work didn’t stop me from coming down 67 floors of KLCC to grab myself the offer, just a few minutes after the clock strike 5. I went there with the resolve to have something to eat for tea / dinner, and eventually I managed to get myself two hotdogs. It was unfortunate that they ran out of Chicago Beef hotdog, but the New York Chicken hotdogs were just simply amazing!

I conveniently forgotten my diet and exercise regime as I stomached the two hotdogs down, much to the amusement of some of my colleagues (I went back to the office to continue my work). I was satisfied with the offer and the delicious taste, and I must admit that it was quite a paradigm shift as I am mostly bogged down with healthy foods and concious heating habits. :P

That was it, now I’m back into the diet and healthy game!

As the saying goes, “a wise traveller never despises his own country” [Carlo Goldoni].

I have just completed the “cuti-cuti Kuantan” plan with my friends. Funny that I organised a trip to my own hometown, but it was fun. We had a great day at Sepat beach and Sungai Pandan waterfall. We had great dinner at the famous seafood area Tanjung Lumpur, and we had one civilised lunch at the biggest mall on the east coast side, the East Coast Mall.

I do hope we can organise such trips at other places in the future. :)

A wise man will re-evaluate his choices once he reached his limit.

(1) It was about time that I reached my treadmill limit – a limit of speed that I could not breach on my first attempt, after a series of steady increase that have seen me running from the speed of 6.0 km/hour to 9.2 km/hour in less then a month. It was a monumental leap of speed that I have gained, but it will about to be a tough challenge ahead.

Today, I attempted the non-stop 30 minutes treadmill run at 9.4 km/hour. It was fine for the first 10 minutes, with me managed to perform my additional 1 km/hour burst for a minute. It was into the 20th minutes that I felt the strain. I had to slow the speed down to 8.5 km/hour. Merely 5 minutes after that, I had to cut short my planned duration due to signs of me reaching my limit.

Not only I had to cut short the exercise, and had to skip the customary weight lifting and machine-assisted exercises as well due to a level of fatigue that I had not felt for quite some time. It was not helping much that I felt a bit dizzy while I was at work, plus the mounting pressure that accumulated from office works and office politics.

(2) It was about time that I realised how dangerous it is for my savings account to reach it’s lowest limit, especially when it is linked to my major credit cards. Due to heafty imposition of service charges by the solicitors and evaluators for my housing loan, I was left with less than RM 400 in my bank account. It could not be helped that my major debtors are tight with cash as well.

Today, I had to help settle the Sports and Recreational Club (SRC) booking for badminton courts for this Saturday’s mini carnival. Somehow or another, I had to settle the payment fast – and luckily I had asked the facility manager if they accept payments in the form of online bank transfer. With an additional RM 300 deposited into my account by the SRC’s presiden

It will be an uphill battle for me to maintain my current weight during this festive season.

This morning, my Naked Body Mass check revealed that I am 64.3 kg in weight. It has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for my body mass these past few days; “pasar malam” didn’t help much with all the treadmill and circuit training that I have laboured myself into.

The interesting fact is that I wrote this piece from my hometown in Kuantan. It is a wonder for me to take one day off and get in return 5-days holiday. My company was grateful enough to give us all replacement holidays on Tuesday since Chinese New Year falls on Sunday and Monday.

So what’s the relationship between my weight and me being in my hometown? The answer is: good home-made food. Nothing can beat your mom’s cooking, or your dad’s culinary skills. The foods that they prepared fore you are just begging for you to throw out your diet regime out of the window.

It will be interesting to see how many kilos that I will gain after I came back from this long holiday. :)
